  • Tamil Nadu lies in the southernmost part of the Indian Peninsula and is bordered by the union territory of Puducherry and the South Indian states of Kerala, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh.

Tamil Nadu Defense and Aerospace Policy

Tamil Nadu government is working on a Defense and Aerospace Policy. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami has said:”the policy’s objective is to achieve a 30 per cent share of the defence sector in India and creating high-end employment opportunities for around 100,000 people in the state.”

There are more than 120 aerospace components manufacturing companies and more than 700 suppliers operating in the Tamil Nadu. Some key upcoming projects of the Tamil Nadu government are:

  • Development of Chennai Aerospace Park at Sriperumbudur
  • This Park is being set up in 250 acres in 1st phase which is expandable to 500 acres in the next phase.
  • This Park will house at least 50 aerospace or Defence companies forming a strong base for supporting large Original Equipment Manufacturers.
  • Aircraft MRO (Maintenance Repair Overhauling) complex in Chennai
  • Advanced Computing and Design Engineering Centre (ACDEC)
  • A multi-floor manufacturing complex in Chennai Aerospace and Defence Park.

NEEDS – NEW ENTREPRENEUR-CUM-ENTERPRISE DEVELOPMENT SCHEME

  • The Scheme is applicable for first generation Entrepreneurs only
  • 50% of allocation would be earmarked for Women
  • Capital subsidy at 25% of the project cost not exceeding Rs.25 lakhs
  • Soft loans with 3% interest subvention

UYEGP – UNEMPLOYED YOUTH EMPLOYMENT GENERATION PROGRAMME

For the educated and unemployed to become self employed by setting up Manufacturing / Service / Business enterprises by availing loan up to the maximum of Rs.10 Lakhs, Rs. 3 Lakhs and Rs. 1 Lakh respectively with subsidy assistance from the State Government up to 15% of the project cost

PMEGP – Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme

PMEGP is a central sector scheme administered by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. The Scheme is implemented by Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), as the single nodal agency at the National level.

SWS – Single Window System

Government of Tamil Nadu has established an effective Single Window System to accord all pre project clearances at the State Government level.

Tamil Nadu Defence Quad

In his budget speech, the Finance Minister Shri Arun Jaitley has announced about setting up of two Defense Production Corridors. The first Defense Production Corridors will be set up in Tamil Nadu. The corridor, which is organized as a quadrilateral will extend from Chennai, Hosur, Coimbatore, Salem and Tiruchirappalli. The Tamil Nadu Defense Quad will open up new opportunities for defense industry particularly MSMEs sector.

The Ministry of Defense has already initiated an exercise of industry interactions at all nodal points for the Quad, namely Chennai, Hosur, Coimbatore, Salem and Tiruchirappalli. These interactions will involve senior officers from MoD, representatives of Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd., Bharat Electronics Ltd., Bharat Earth Movers Ltd. and Ordnance Factories. These interactions are being organized with the active participation of the local Small Scale Industries Associations and the State Government representatives.
